As a human, I am moved by often-unnoticed features of nature—the abstract, the grotesque, these minute details that evade the average observer—as an artist, I attempt to harness this chaotic elegance. The natural world is commonly connected with beauty, not strangeness, yet it is this strangeness that attracts me, and in this strangeness that I discover beauty.
I find myself fixated on visual patterns of cohesion and strive to develop ambiguous forms, while alluding the recognizable. Beauty thrives beyond humanity in the strangest of ways; one just has to take the time to notice. Derived from these values, I express abstracted parallels, which incite the viewer to develop new personal associations with form and texture.
My hand-built work represents life in a conceptual manner, embodying an appreciation for all of nature’s complex elements. Within my varying techniques of building and carving, I manipulate clay to invite the viewer into a world of enduring juxtaposition that articulates the continuity of beauty beyond us.
Conversely, I am a perfectionist in my daily life and my wheel-work conveys this. Thus, emphasizing the obsessive rather than the representational side of me. By altering these works I grasp the fragility of nature with a subtle approach through emulating the more soft and gentle features. The delicacy of my alterations allows interpretation to become multifaceted.
